Has everyone let the mp3 comp sink in yet? Anybody want to discuss it
more in-depth?
I was shocked and encouraged by the professional quality sound
engineering that everyone got. Everyones songs were much stronger
than I had imagined they might be. There are some really great songs
on it! Also, the different styles of surf were really good to hear.
Not everyone sounded like the traditional surf band.

Chis:
As an old-timey "two cassette player" style home recordist,
I too was pleasantly surprised at the extra-high-fidelity
of the comp. submissions.
I started home recording way back in the 80s with a couple
of cassette players bouncing tracks and takes. Then in the
90s, I moved up to the Tascam 4-track cassette. Finally, at
the turn of the Millenium, I moved up to Cakewalk on a
Windows PC. Currently, I am using a Tascam US-122 USB
front end into Cakewalk Sonar on my Dell Laptop...however,
I hope to switch over to an Apple G5 when I win the
California Lotto!
Anyway what I think I'm getting at here is an appreciation
of the technological revolution that has brought the
digital age down from U2's studio into my little Hacienda
in the Mojave Desert. Man, my home studio kicks total ass
compared to anything I ever imagined 25 years ago! And I
still have money left over for food and surfing and guitar
strings and new school clothes from Hot Topic for my
daughter.
The other thing I noticed about the MP3 comp is the
incredible dedication from all those who submitted tunes.
Iit is apparent that we all have a deep seated love for the
reverberation unit, and it's cool to see so many dedicated
twangers out there.
