Rick:
In my opinion as a 25 year bass-dude...Rotosound is the
string of choice for bass. The RS66 Swing Bass strings are
an excellent choice for roundwounds: they are stainless
steel and the produce a great "John Entwistle circa 1964"
tone...listen to the Who's first album to hear what I mean.
Rotosound also makes a great Nickel Flatwound string set.
I used to run Roto Nickel Flats on my Mosrite Bass...they
produced a wonderful "Ventures" and "Lively Ones" style
bass thud-tone...
Rotosound Round Wound Nickels sound nice and warm, I like
them a lot, but often they are more difficult to locate:
many places don't keep thm in stock regularly.
I never played Pyramid Bass strings...so I have no opinion
on them...I have played Thomastik Flatwounds...and I
believe the Rotosounds are beefier and have a better
feel...the Thomastiks are great on acoustic upright
double-bass...but I believe their electric string sets are
over-hyped, and over-rated.
Rotosound, simply put, is the perfect bass string for my
taste and budget.
