Ok, bright spot in my otherwise abysmal life--I
finally got back my Jagmaster with the new pickups in
it. Some of you may remember a while back I was
inquiring about getting some humbucker-sized P-90's
for my Jagmaster because I wanted to go single coil
without hacking it. After checking around I got
turned on to Peter Biltoft and Vintage Vibe guitars.
After asking I found out that he custom winds pickups
and for this particular model uses the same magnets
and windings Fender does. Not sure how much there is
to this since I have never really messed around too
much with pickups, but I gotta say I'm pretty pleased.
When he asked me what sound I was going for so he
could wind them I said "Jazzmaster", having no idea at
the time if there was any way for him to approximate
the Jazzmaster's sound in a set of P-90's the size of
humbuckers. Well, there isn't. I've played one AV
Jazzmaster and heard countless recordings and this
doesn't really sound like a Jazzmaster. BUT, it does
sound very Fender--more like a Strat or a Jag. It's
hard to say, even after having had my Cyclone II, just
how close it gets to a Jag sound, but it's darn close
and I like it. I've always liked my Yamaha SGV but
the Jagmaster just became my number one again because
of these pickups.
