Hi,Phillip,
I use a mid-70s Vibrolux Reverb silverface for Surf, and usually play
with Vol. around 3. In this position it gives a lovely and clean
sound.
But even at smaller club gigs when waves are going high I have to
crank it up to Vol. 4 or 5 - and do have the same phenomenon you
described; overdriven tone, not clean anymore.
Don't know why, so I can't give you a hint to solve the problem,
except: Get yourself a Twin ...
