Happy B-day Dick Dale...

red_thundr - 04 May 2005 10:20:13

If anybody cares (at all), today is DD's birthday.
Most traffic of late has been quite disparaging of Mr. Dale. But
still I wish him a happy B-day and many more.

Wow, what a coincidence! Thanks for telling us, Red Thunder (dude,
what's your real name?). I don't know if most stuff here about DD has
been disparaging, but I certainly have been in the past.
Nevertheless, I've tried to atone for my sins the last couple of days,
cause like I said, I've digging the hell out of his music recently
(even modern stuff).
So, that makes his 68? He can definitely still 'pump like a mother'
(his expression) for a 68-year-old!!!
Happy Birthday, DD, and many more!

He can still 'pump' for any age person! I always say it, but
someday I hope to capture half his power while I'm playing.
As for disparaging remarks - Every time I've met DD, he has been
nothing but pleasant and funny. he has always replied to e-mails,
and is always willing to share a funny story while he signs things
and poses for photos. I think he gets a bum rap. I don't hold it
against him when he talks big, it's just the way he is.
Happy B-day! D.D.!

I don't think disparaging is quite right, maybe critical of his
recent work, but what do you expect from this list of *surf* fans?
However, I too wish the hell out of a Happy Birthday for the guy. We
wouldn't be here without him.
In fact I saw him for the first time roughly 2 years ago. After the
show he was signing my Rhino Records best-of CD that I brought for
that purpose. As he was writing I told him "Happy Birthday" as I
knew it was just a few days earlier. He thought that I wanted him to
write "Happy Birthday" on the CD and proceeded to do so. I caught
him, but not before he wrote "Happ"...too funny. We both had a good
laugh about that. Chris and DP are right, in person, DD is extremely
nice and generous, and has this charisma about him that only a rare
number of people do. He's definitely a very interesting guy. All the
best to him and I hope he has many more.
He's playing near me next week and I think I'll probably go.
