Totally different band. The bio for the band says: "The Nocturnes
hailed from the Kagarah Bay area of Sydney's southern suburbs and
issued two singles on the Leedon label...."

Funny you bring this up. Last week I went through this "Board
Boogie" comp as well as the "The W&G Instrumental Story" comp (also
all Aussie surf bands), and selected the best of the bunch and made a
CD-R that I've been listening to a LOT. Some of it is truly, truly
exceptional (though I should mention also that some of it is so bad
it's painful). The Atlantics were obviously a major influence, which
I think is wonderful, and songs like the Strangers' "The Cry of the
Wild Goose", the Echos' "Bajjad", the Cherokees' "Thundercloud", the
Nocturnes' "Storm Warning", and a few others, are almost as good as
the best of the Atlantics.
I should also mention that the Joy Boys, who are featured very
prominentaly on the "Board Boogie" comp, were a very fine instro/surf
band, with their own sound. I know these guys were a big influence
on the Atlantics, but the influence also seemed to go the other way
later. Anyway, I highly recommend their material to any instro/surf
fan - really good stuff. Finally, if we're talking about big surf-
era Aussie instro acts we must also mention the Denvermen, who were a
bit more into the Shadows, but released a slew of fine singles and
one fantastic album.
I think this was the cream of the Aussie surf music crop. Great
stuff, and folks that aren't familiar with it should definitely make
some effort - it'll be worth it. Just don't expect the Astronauts!

Ivan, thanks a lot for that info about the "australian" Nocturnes !
Yep, you`re right with the statement about the "unbalanced" quality
of the material, but I think that`s generell a problem with that 60`s
comps [especially in the garage/psych sector !], they have the demand
to put many bands as possible on the cd`s and so you have normally
1/3 awesome stuff and 2/3 dull numbers on these comps. viva CD-Rs,
he, he...
I also own a newer compilation from australian instro acts
called "Surf-O-Rama" [pink Flamingo Records], that gives a good
impression about the scene down under nowadays [file under home party
compatible record...].
