Re: Baha-Ree-Bah (Part 1) // Rare surf Vol. 1 and 2

Jeff (bigtikidude) - 22 Apr 2005 20:31:46

True Klas,
Although Paul Johnson did say that the books(info) in them are
slighly different for each.
The reason Gee Dee wasn't able do do the Vol. 3 was.
Paul didn't have the original recordings for that stuff.
But he recorded all the bands on Vol. 1 and 2.
Jim from the Nocturnes introduced me to Paul, about 7 years ago,
and said they recorded the Nocturnes stuff in Paul's garage/studio.
But as Paul shopped the recordings around to different record lables
in 64. Nobody was even interested(because of the British Invasion).
So it all sat unreleased for year untill Paul hooked up with AVI, who
did the original pressing in the US. But it went outta
print/buisness. So Paul shopped it (his stuff on 1 and 2) to Gee Dee
in Germany.
By the way, I see some of those AVI releases show up every once
inawhile. There must be some distibutor, that picked up some
leftovers on a sale somewhere.

Jeff, I was only talking about the musical content. I personally
think the AVI releases looks better (yes, it's important) and vol. 2
and 3 are still common on eBay. Vol. 1 seems to be more scarse though.

One thing that is getting on my nerves after some years of having tracks from
those
(the Gee-dee versions) on my computer: They are overcompressed. At first you
think
wow! what a powerful sound, but over time the music sufffers from such flat
dynamics.
Possibly the AVI CDs are not as squeezed, could check it, but too lazy.
