Fender Jaguar

guildaristocrat62 - 19 Apr 2005 14:54:55

I just bought a Fender MIJ Jaguar. What modifications do I need to do
to make it a great surf guitar?

You might want to swap the stock Japanese pickups (if
they are stock Japanese pickups) with some American
Vintage series or Seymour Duncan pickups. The Jap
Jaguar that I had was a nice guitar but it had some
friggin' weak pickups.
Your Twin Reverb is perfect. A Fender tube reverb
unit would complete the package perfectly.

I love the AV Fender pickups, I'd recommend upgrading the pots as well.
That being said I used my CIJ Jaguar stock when we recorded our album,
and the sound wasn't THAT bad. The AVs....they are just perfect.

I second the AVs. I haven't replaced the pots yet becuase I worry
about making the holes for the pots larger.

Simple man, if you can work a solder iron and figure out where to
connect the pickups you have the IQ to open up those holes. Get a
small file, and just work it!

So there isn't a big difference. I though I would have to machine them
or something.

No sir, in fact I almost thought they would have fit without any
mods. I guess having the right files would help. But, I used to
work as a machinest at my father's factory so I have tool boxes full
of them. Just make sure its small enough to fit all the way through
the hole.
