THE ONCE-IN-A-WHILE HOWLIN

Howlin Thurstons (howlinthurstons) - 04 Apr 2005 12:23:57

File this under HELP US GET WORK!...B.B. Kings’s Blues Club is asking on their
web site “Who would you like to see perform at the B.B. King Blues Club?” The
band that gets the most votes gets the gig, so here’s the link, log on and vote for
your favorite band (us, of course.). We’re on the drop-down menu entitled
“Artists Already On The List”.
A special thanks to all who came to our gig at the Lakeside Lounge
(www.lakesidelounge.com) the Friday before last, March 25. It was a rip-roaring
success. We played to a packed house, saw some old friends and, most important,
made many new friends. To the dozen or so of you who signed up for the mailing
list and bought a CD or T-Shirt, thank you and welcome to strange world of The
Howlin’ Thurstons.
Our only regret was that we weren’t able to sneak out to the Luna Lounge to
catch a set by our fellow N.E.S.M.A. band, The Bosch (www.hbosch.net). They
were the opening act for a rare reunion performance by The Irreversible Slacks.
We understand that The Bosch were at the top of their game delivering a killer
set. Sorry we missed it!
Many thanks to N.E.S.M.A. founder and perennial road warrior, Mike “Staccato”
Rosado, and his ever faithful sidekick, Sandy, for stopping by the Lakeside and
offering their support.
And, speaking of N.E.S.M.A., the following night saw three more N.E.S.M.A. bands
at the Apocalypse Lounge (www.clubapocalypse.com). 9th Wave (
www.9thwavesurf.com), new N.E.S.M.A. members, Squid Pussy,
(www.soundclick.com/squidpussy), and The Clams (www.geocities.com/wedontsing)
packed in this basement venue with a VERY enthusiastic crowd of instro/surf
fans. The Apocalypse Lounge is a funky/hip little venue on East Third Street
between Avenue A and B in NYC’s East Village. Saturday was the first of what we
hope will be a monthly showcase for N.E.S.M.A. bands, so keep an eye out for
future shows.
And, if you dig surf inspired instro/garage rock bands or garage inspired
instro/surf bands then check out the official N.E.S.M.A. web site at
www.nesmasurf.org for links to member bands, concert schedules, show reviews,
photos, etc.
This past January saw the Thurstons back in their favorite recording studio,
laying down tracks for their first full length CD. It’s about half complete,
and we should have it ready by the end of the year.
Don’t forget, you can listen to the Howlin’ Thrustons on Radio. Each of these
guys has been known to play The Howlin’ Thurstons from time to time and this
email is our way of saying thanks. So, to all our fans, we ask your support for
our friends in Radio by tuning in or clicking on as the case may be. You can
