How does everyone set their pickup height on their jags ?
As Fender recommends, or do people have their own variations ?
Also is it advisable to "angle" the pickups by raising the treble side and
lowering the bass side ?

I use the Dan Ware methodology: I set them so there is about the
thickness of a #2 pencil between the pickups and strings. Actually
mine might be a bit higher than that. But it's in the ball park. I
then usually raise the treble side and lower bass side in order to
even out the volume between strings. Just use your ears. You don't
want to get the pickups too close or their magnetic pull will start to
affect the string vibrations.

My pickups are so far from the strings. I shim my neck and like my
action high so there is one hell of a gap. I don't like how Fender
strings are so close to the pickguard due to lack of neck angle. I am
not too worried about the pickups being so far from the strings volume
wise. I play through a Showman and the lead guitarist plays through
either a Tremolux or Bandmaster.

I usually don't care too much for getting "exact" details when ti
comes to setting up any guitar. I usually just adjust things until
they are comfortable. But, this gotme thinking about the height of
my Jaguar pickups. There is NO WAY I could fit a #2 pencil in
between the strings and the pickups.
I've got two Jaguars here are the measurments(both have the same
pickups)
CIJ - Neck pickup top of high e pole piece to bottom of high e
string, 5/32s. Top of bass e pole piece to bottom of bass e
string, 5/32s
Bridge pickup top of high e pole piece to bottom of high e string,
4/32s. Top of bass e pole piece to bottom of bass e string, 5/32s.
AV - Neck pickup top of high e pole piece to bottom of high e
string, 3/32s. Top of bass e pole piece to bottom of bass e
string, 4/32s
Bridge pickup top of high e pole piece to bottom of high e string,
3/32s. Top of bass e pole piece to bottom of bass e string, 4/32s.

Okay, I'll play the "Made You Look" game... :-)
Turns out my measurements are much closer to Bill's...I have about
6/32's on the bass side of both pickups.
So disregard my #2 pencil estimate. Thank you for making me stick to
the facts, Bill.
