-At least nothing bad was said about anyone, besides the 101 has
pretty dead lately. I was surprised to see anything on it. I can't
believe ther is nothing more to say about guitars/strings/amps/tanks/
effects.
Lets get it rolling again please.

Here's one for the 101. Anyone own a cyber-twin? How does the '65
Blackface twin reverb modelling algorithm compare to a real one? I was in
guitar center today contemplating whether or not I wanted to exercise their
ten-day return policy and give one a go.
What amazes me, is WHO sets the prices on their used amps? I saw a '67
Twin Reverb Blackface for $2699.00 HELLO!!!???
I dont mind paying a little markup, everyones gotta make a buck, but
thats pretty friggin steep.
What was also kind of funny to me (funny like ha-ha...not funny like
getting your stomach pumped) was that they had a "used" cyber twin for
899.00, and a "brand new" one for 900.00

O.K., I'll bite . . . yep, I've got a Cyber-Twin. Can't say how the
BF Twin Reverb preset compares to the real thing (since I can't A/B
it). I can share the following observations (I've had mine since
June 01 - it's firmware version 1.0):
1) The presets are generally not too good. To get a real good sound,
I've had to "tweak" every amp preset - what I use the most these days
is based upon the BF tone stack, though. If you check one out, be
sure to go beyond the presets . . .
2) The built in "Fender" reverb does not do justice to the outboard
reverb tank. I was so disappointed in the CT reverb, that I had to
get an outboard tank - a decision which I've never regretted. The
reverb effects are good, but just not "surf worthy", IMO.
3) Beware of the dread "tube rattle"! This malady affects early
firmware versions (like mine - but I've never had it); later versions
have a beefed up suspension (really!) and bracing to cut down on
vibrations to the circuit boards. Early CT's create tube rattle in
the 12AX7's in the pre-amp section - the only tubes this sucker has.
On the whole, I pretty happy with mine. Tube purists/snobs may
disagree, but the amp sounds pretty good (to me). For my basement
playing, I've never had the master volume above "4" - this thing can
get LOUD! If anyone is considering it, though, don't think you can
toss your outboard reverb tanks . . . also, be sure to dig down and
tweak the presets - it's not a time consuming process, but it can
yield some nice tones.

Let me start this out by saying I'm not a "tube nazi" nor do I
immediately write off any type of digital effects (yeah, I have a dan-
echo instead of an echoplex for delay), but I just don't like the
direction of music as having a digital equivalent for anything and
everything. I had to cringe when a few days after purchasing a '64
Blackface Twin Reverb (a steal at $800), a guitarist friend told me I
was dumb and should just buy a Line 6 for a couple hundred more,
since you could get it to sound exactly the same.
So, with that said, I think the CT has it's place -- mainly among
either guitarists playing a wide range of musical styles which all
require distinct tones, or those who play for themselves and want to
have a variety of amp sounds at their fingertips.
Naturally, if you're playing surf, nothing beats the sound and tone
of a vintage Fender amp, but as has been stated in earlier posts,
this can run up to $2700. I, for one, would buy a Cyber and
say "close enough" if I'd be saving $1800. Hell, at least it has
SOME tubes in it....
While I'm writing I guess I'll also add fuel to the purists fire by
just throwing something out there about the Japanese-made Jags and
Jazzmasters. I've had my MIJ Jag since '97 and have never had a
single problem with it. Now that I've added a buzzstop (the best
thing to happen to Fender Trem systems since the whammy bar), I
couldn't be happier with mine.

Then you'll LOVE this.
Line 6 now has a guitar that, you guessed it, emulates other guitars! Need a
martin acoustic and don't have the $2k? No problem. Preset number 3. Banjo?
#4. A Gretsch 6120, no wait a Rick 360. It's there too.
See if you can find the demo video. It's a Hoot!

I like the idea of a 'Swiss Army' amp, especially for practice and for
reliability. I've had the ole tubes let me down, and sometimes, you're in places
where its hard to find the ole tubes as well. My biggest issue with the digi
amps is whether they're gig-worthy (and of course tone). I don't know how they'd
do, I've never owned one. Most of these digi things, including my POD, have
rock-god-wannabe type presets across the board, and, if you don't get beyond the
presets, you could be passing up something that really can deliver quality tone
(again, experience from POD). Oh, and btw, my pure '63 Jazzmaster has the
original bridge: No buzz, no string shifting, no problems. Guess I'm
fortunate....the 11 Chromes probably help as well.

Hey Dano,
Getting your stomach pumped sounds like a swell time, any stories
there? As for the price difference, hey a buck is a buck right?
