Re: [SurfGuitar101] strings and things

DP (noetical1) - 28 Mar 2005 10:27:31

I like Pyramid Heavy Flatwounds...but, they are
expensive...I also like Rotosound Purples and GHS Heavy
Boomers.
I use Rotosound RS66 on my bass, only bass string that
sounds good to me.

I strung my SGV with the only 12-52 set I could find
in town, Dean Markleys. They're ok, but they seem to
sound kinda harsh to me. I haven't really gotten to
crank them at volume though. D'Addario rounds and
flats seem to be very good, cheap strings, I just
can't find them larger than 11's here.
Dave, aren't the RS66's strainless?

Richard,
Yes, I think it is stainless...but the Rotosound website
says this:
"The steel used to produce these strings is unique,
combined with a highly secretive manufacturing process"
...kind of mysterious!
I know that the RS66N is nickel...and those sound real good
too...but, the Nickel Rotosounds are a little hard to find

Zone Fighter (zonefighter) - 28 Mar 2005 11:25:30

I've been using strings from here lately.....
Lots of variety and very cheap, as low as $2.35 a set ($5.35 for flat
wound) if you order 24 sets, shipping is free. They seem as good as
the D'Addarios that I used before discovering them.
From what I have read on the web there are only three guitar string
factories in the US. Most of the name brand strings you get are made
in one of those so there really isn't much difference between the
common brands...
