I will help you learn surf guitar! (Just three words...+ two more!)

DP (noetical1) - 27 Mar 2005 19:00:41

Logan:
Three words of surf-guitar-gear advice for you:
Fender, Fender, Fender!!!
1. get a Fender guitar: Jaguar, Jazzmaster, cool old-style
Stratocaster...other guitars will work...but, a Fender
won't disappoint you.
2. Get a Fender Tube Amplifier: Showman, Bassman, Hot
Rod...take your time and find a good Fender Amp...you'll be
glad you did.
3. Find a nice Fender Re-issue Reverb Unit and buy it...
you wanna play surf guitar, right? You'll need a Fender
Reverb Unit!
Okay, I guess I can give you one more word...Moshay Pick...
you'll need a sturdy pick to withstand the killer
machine-gun staccato surf attack that you will shortly
unleash on your unsuspecting Fender guitar...you'll need a
decent pick.
Can you stand one more tip? One more? Okay one more...heavy
flat wound guitar strings for that
"vintage-vibe-mellow-surging-surf-beauty-haunting-reverb
mode"...heavy round-wound strings for that "Dick Dale
screaming-killer-reverb-guitar-attack-total-surf-insanity
mode"...some decent surf-guitar strings are made by GHS,
D'Addario, Rotosound, and Pyramid... go to
www.juststrings.com to shop for your new killer heavy-guage
surf guitar strings...
good luck...your reverberated pal,
-dp

Ivan has always been a big proponent of nickel strings if I remember
correctly. He really likes Rotosounds Purples which are .12s. I bought
a couple packs of Rotosounds Reds which are .11s. Best sounding nickel
strings I ever had gotten. Dave suggested GHS Burnished strings. I
bought some of those and really didn't like them as much as the
Rotosounds.
I am back to using D'addario Chromes after my brief trip back to using
roundwounds.

Mr. Wronski gave me a set of those Purple Rotosounds
which I put on my SGV. In addition to curing the
slight neck bow, those strings really made that guitar
come alive. I have never used flatwounds, but for that
guitar, wow, what a difference.
Speaking of SGVs, lets make a pic folder on Yahoo
SG101 for SGV fans... wannes, do you have a shot of
your guitar, before you sold it?
Thanks,
