Re: Athens, GA?(instro REM)

bigtikidude - 02 Sep 2002 15:13:23

-Ivan, and others,
Local Band The Detenators, do a killer instro version of "The One
I Love" By REM. Kinda like the Instro Version of "Wicked Game" by
Chris Issak, just replace Vocal line with Reverb Guitar and wala,
Ventures Revisited. Wish they would do some killer interpretations
like they used to.-

Another band that does some instro surf and rockabilly and a little
alt. country as well is "The Flat Duo Jets". I don't know if they're
still around or not, but if nothing else, it's further proof that
surf and beyond still exists down south.

The only decent band of that ilk that had any surf chops or style, was The
Smithereens. They had a nice groove in most of their better songs...and
their first radio hit, "Behind the wall of sleep" had some era-ish subject
matter. Although, I cant imagine finding anything to lust for in a girl that
stands like Bill Wyman....

-I haven't heard them, but I heard that the Smithereens did a couple
of surf songs as B-sides to some of their 45's. I wonder how they
are. They are one of the few colledge rock bands that I like.
