Marty, Ivan, or anyone else that know.
I want to know without going into the other groups.
How were the Ventures and Shadows tributes that Musick records put
out, taken by the fans on the associated groups/lists.
How did they like them, sell, and what were the general thoughts
about the cd's
thanks in advance
Jeff(bigtikidude)
p.s. I'm a casual listener of the Ventures and Shadows.
I like some of their stuff alot, and hate some of their stuff
alot. I admit that they were very influential to the instro/and
rock scences from where they made impacts. Should be included in
R&R HOF. But the same could be siad for DIck Dale and Link Wray.
It won't happen, they have their heads up their asses over there.
"Swinging Creepers" was a major hit with the Underground Fire (Ventures fan
list). I keep that CD filed in my Ventures collection as opposed to the
"various" section of my surf collection. "An Evening at Nivram" was also well
received on UF.

Jeff, it's difficult to say. Not many Shadows internet groups
existed when An Evening In Nivram was released ('97?), and I don't
think I was a regular member back then anyway. in subsequent years
it would occasionally come up as a topic. My memory is that most
people that heard it liked it a lot. The bands on the comp didn't
come even close to capturing (as Shadows fans refer to it) THAT
SOUND, but I think the fans appreciated the innovative arrangements
and loving recreations. Most fans were surprised that so many
American surf bands would care. I think a small minority maybe
dismissed it as a 'bunch of bloody yanks messing with things they
know nothing about' or something along those lines, but I really
don't think there were many of those at all. In general, my memory
is that the reaction was a positive one. But I also don't think that
many fans actually bought the album, as it wasn't widely available in
the UK or the rest of the world, so I think most of them just don't
know it.

I think we agree that's one of the good things about "Evening at Nivram", most
of the bands didn't go for "that sound". There are tooo many comps and CD's
released in Europe that duplicate the Shadows sound to the "T".
