A lot of people consider music without vocals simple, or
infintile. Non Surf muisc people don't realize how much is going on
during an instrumental song. Rhythm, bass, drums, and a
lead "voice". It's hard getting people to pay attention to a song
without vocals.
Before I REALLY learned anything about The Ventures, I thought
they were the band that did songs that all sounded like "walk don't
run". I credit Bolder Bobb from the Beloved Invaders with setting
me straight about how great they really are.
Live in '65 is the best!
"Hawaii 5-0" is a classic! I remember trying to stay up past 9pm
just so i could see the intro to the show on TV. I still get fired
up everytime I hear that song. ( Sorry Bill)
The Hall of Fame SUCKS! They wouldn't know great music if it
bit 'em on the butt. Bands like the Ventures and Dick Dale
shouldn't worry about getting in. Their fans don 't care if they
are in or not. It's not about musical ability, or content, its'
about image. If the Ventures had set stuff on fire, or busted up
some guitars, or had mohawks, or pink hair, then maybe they could
get in....

If that's the Super Psychedlics album you got at the thrift store,
there's some good Ventures originals on there.

I personally couldn't give a squirt of liquid excrement about who gets
in the RRHOF. None of the awards, hall of fames, walk of fames, yada
yada, mean anything. When Briney Spears gets a star, you know it's
meaningless. I've never listened to music that was considered "hip"
among people in my age bracket anyway (I was listening to Buddy Holly
when I was 6, and I'm 34, so you see how culturally driven I am).

Life is short. Play for the music. Wear your heart on your sleeve.
