Surf Coasters w/Phil Dirt Saturday

Brian Neal (xarxas) - 11 Mar 2005 18:27:18

Don't forget The Surf Coasters will be in the pit with Phil tomorrow
night. Listen over the net. Check it out:
I'll be attempting to record it on the computer...never tried anything
like that before. Anyone have any tips or use any specific software? I
was just going to use Cool Edit.
Thanks,
BN

Hey Brian!
I'm working on the set list, some of those were new to my ears. I'll
let you know...
I have all of the show except the first 2 songs ( my wife made dinner
and I didn't want to leave my computer while recording the Surf
Coasters, so I was eating in front of my computer. Anyway, I
accidentally put my plate down - what an idiot - on my space key and it
paused my recording for 5 minutes before I noticed it! I was pissed!! )
Anyway, maybe we can fill in the holes for each other? They were
incredible though, were they not?!?! Amaaaaaaaaaaazing band...

BTW, "The Crash" is not to be confused with "The Clash"....."The Crash"
appears on the DVD (2nd song I think).

Whoops, Charlie Kinyon and I are comparing notes off list, and I have
one correction to make to my set list. See below.
However, both Charlie and I differ on the number of songs played....he
seems to be missing some that I have. Hopefully we'll get this sorted
out. Anyone else have a list?
Curiously, my wife was listening to Phil in a different room on a
different computer. As she walked between rooms she told me that our two
feeds differed in time greatly, by like 10 minutes!!! Internet time warp???

Okay, on a second listen, song 14 (below) is really just a big
psycho-jam that begins immediately (without pause) after Fly Up. So
perhaps isn't really a song, just a long jammy ending to Fly
Up....however it does start with a drum fill so I thought it was the
start of a new song...I dunno.....
So that leaves the mystery of songs 9 and 15. Anyone, anyone, Beuller?
Thanks,
BN

Thanks Phil and Ferenc.
I think the list below is what I got too, I'll trust you on the Easter
cuts...I don't have that one.
How does Easter rate on the surf scale? I really liked Midnight
Trooper and Hurricane, but not so much Trouble Maker.
Do you think their back catalog will become easier/cheaper to get in
the US as a result of this tour?
Thanks,
BN

Also, check out Shigeo Naka plays Paul Mauriat and

Warren Binder (captainspringfield) - 15 Mar 2005 14:24:01

Brian,
You can skip Easter. Aside from "Midnight Trooper," the best songs are covers of
the James Bond theme, "Popcorn" and the Chantays' "Tragic Wind." A couple of the
other originals are decent (the title track and "Thunder Lily") but there's a
bunch of weird, experimental tracks that aren't very interesting.
"Hurricane" is off Surf Attack.
It would be great if their back catalogue became cheaper and more readily
available, especially since it seems a few of their albums are out of print..
