How is your 12 string Mosrite neck? I find most 12 string necks far
too wide for my smallish hands ( short fingers ;-( )

Chris.....Have you ever tried a Rickenbacker 12 string? The necks on
those are smaller than most 6 string electrics.

The Mosrite Ventures XII is the best electric 12 string I've played.
It's got a comfortable neck. I think the neck width is the same as
tthat of a Rick 12. Acoustic 12 string necks are wide but I can't
think of any electric 12-string neck that I would consider wide. I
used to have a Rick 12 string, the big double bound one, and I could
never get it intonated correctly. I realize now that I coulda put a
12 piece bridge on it but I sold instead.

Apart from the Mosrite Ventures 12 (which is a very good guitar, the
Joe Maphis double neck had a great 12 string Mosrite neck. The 12ver I
use now for touring is an Epiphone Elitist Riviera 12-String and it's
like a semi hollow 335. The Beach Boys used one for years and it is
truly a fabulous instrument for stage. Very reliable.

What do you guys use your 12 strings for? I really like the sound,
but I wonder how much I would use it. On the other hand, I could
easily justify another guitar if it had 12 strings instead of only
six!
anybody play a danelectro 12 string? i tried one, and the neck was
a little narrower that my accoustic 12, but still kinda wide.

I use 12-string electrics for the occasional change in the surf set. It sounds
good for Slaughter on 10th Ave for instance. I use a 12-string acoustic for
fingerstyle ragtime.

Didn't Davie Allan's double neck have a 12? It's been awhile, but I
remember his version of Apache having a 12....I think.
That version of Apache smoked from what I recall.

I think they cost $1200 or so retail. I have the vintage sunburst one.
And it is a stunner.

Chris,
I have a tune on my second CD "A Day At The Beach" which is called "The
Dirt Surfers Get Wet." It uses an electric 12 for the lead part. On the
recording, I used my old Rickenbacker 12-string. But that guitar is WAY
too valuable to tour with. So I go live with the Epiphone Riviera. I
suppose I could have used any elec 12 but the Riv is pretty good for
the job. If I found a Mosrite 12, I'd probably buy it if it were in
nice shape.
If you want to hear "The Dirt Surfers Get Wet" where a 12-string is
used for surf music, check it out at:
This song was one of several #1 hit singles that I had at mp3.com.
Regards,
Les

I have an Eastwood Specter 12 (Vox Phantom XII replica) that I play
for Davie Allan type of stuff and some garage Byrds style.

Yes, his double neck (Mosrite Joe Maphis model?) had a 12-string.
