DP (noetical1) - 23 Feb 2005 00:07:33

Eminence speakers are pretty good for bass...I use the
300watt 12" version...they are holding up well...good
price, good quality

thanks DP, could you tell me which 12" model, they have so many?
I'm considering 2 12"s to get to 4 ohms to get the most out of the
bassman 100. Either that 1 15, have it at double ohmage. but the 2 12
seems at thispoint the better option because of matching ohmage (cant
find a 4 ohm 15) better spread, and punchier sound. I personally like
the bass to be not too low - because i want it to be audible yet not
too loud..

... and then something else, what amp are you running with it: i read
on the meinence website that you can damage a speaker by providing
NOT ENOUGH power!? I never heard of that and it suprised me too.
anyone knows anything about that. I'd think a 300w speaker on a 100w
bassman would actually b a good ideaa, leaving lots of headroom on
the speaker,

I never heard of that either. I have always been told
that the more headroom you had the "healthier" the
speaker would sound and you'd run less risk of
damaging it when you get spikes from playing. It's
for this reason that I quit running everything on my
B100R 1x15 combo so high (bass all the way up, treble
all the way up) because while I liked the aggressive,
cutting sound for live shows, it sounded like crap
when recording. The guy recording our demo for us
told me to run everything flat and do minor tweaks
from there. On my Mesa Boogie head (200 watts) I
don't engage the active EQ at all for fear of busting
something in my cab (also 200 watts).

...sounds like 2x12" will be right for you (original
Fender Bassman amps came with 12" speakers)...
I found the 300watt Eminence 12" speakers at Musician's
Friend... I will look them up and get back to you with a
model number...
