Slacktone Gear Photo's Uploaded

Brian Neal (xarxas) - 22 Jul 2002 18:36:13

Hi,
Bo Struye took some great pics of Slacktone at a recent show and uploaded
them to Reverborama. With his kind permission, I copied two of them to our
photo area. One is of Dave Wronski's custom amp and settings, and the other
is a nice shot of him and his Jaguar. Notice the following about his Jag:
* White body, white (actually mint green) pickguard (rumored to be a MIJ Jag
body & neck with MIA components) -- nice.
* Trem arm is tipped with a "die" (singular of dice)
* Buzzstop installed
* Chrome lead circuit pot knobs
* Instead of the 3 slider switches for the lead circuit, a cool diagonal 3
way lever switch
* Slacktone sticker
Any chance of Fender making a Dave Wronski signature edition Jaguar? He
works there, they should!
The photo area for the group is located at:
BN
PS. Thanks for uploading the cool WinAmp skin, iso_toxin!

The first person to identify what's hanging off that carabiner behind Dave's
amp earns the rights to be the number one surf nerd.

My guess would be the reverb unit... However, Dan, given that you seem to
know the answer, and have actually bothered to ask about it on the list, I
think that would qualify YOU for the Number One Surf Nerd!
Ivan
PS I've noticed something hanging as well, so I can't say I'm too far
behind in my nerdom...

How do you guys get the club owners to let you hang your reverbs? I
tried it once, and the club owner wanted to hang us. Now I gotta put
it off the stage so it doesn't "crash" with every bass drum thump.

It's true Ivan, you are correct...but one can't run around touting one's
self as a surf-nerd. That lacks style. It IS the reverb tray. I wonder how
much affect the horizontal attitude of it in the hanging position has on the
reverb effect, if any?
The night I saw Slacktone play, I walked up to the gear before the show,
and I saw custom cables, pedals, echoplex(es), custom switches, panic boxes,
impedance-boosters, and a gamut of other items I couldnt identify. From a
completely purist traditional standpoint, I was completely confused. Did not
compute. Danger Will Robinson!
I walked away flustered chanting quietly to myself "Showman, tank,
Jag...Showman, tank, Jag...Showman, tank, Jag..."

-Guys,
Although it possibly could be a Tank. I doubt that it is. I don't
remember seeing one when I was there. And The Last few times I've
seen Slacktone. All I coud hear was the Echoplex and a tidbit of
Built in reverb in the amps. Also I think that his overdriving of
his signal is getting out of control. It doesn't sound like a
overdrive, but like the speaker is getting ready to crap out.
I'm blown away by his playing, but am getting very tired of his new
sound. But who's gonna tell Dave it sounds like crap. Oh what the
Fuck, maybe I will.

Yeah, I've never seen one before! I was surpised at how big it was. Someone
on the Slacktone list posted a link to some more photos. I'll see if I can
find them and list all of them here:
From Bo:
From Cole Coonce:
I think its partially visible in some of those photos.

So, two questions: 1) does Dave not use the reverb units anymore? I can't
see one anywhere (unless they're hung somewhere). 2) what's the deal with
the "Slacktone" amp? Is it just a Super Reverb with a different faceplate,
or is completely customized? What speakers does it have? It looks
smaller than the Super Reverb that's next to it, and the first two inputs
on the left are labeled "reverb", implying there's a built-in reverb tank,
like the Dual Professional. In fact, the control layout seems very
similar to a Dual Professional, though not identical.

This is cut from the post I did a long time ago...its from Dave himself
describing his gear. It was posted to the Slacktone list. It does sound like
we need to ask more questions about this amp:
From Dave W:

If you want to see the whole gory post, search for the post with the
subject:
"The Esteemed Mr. Dave Wronski (Long)", or I can email it you.
I'll ask on the Slacktone list for more details.

Very interesting. A recap:
Super Reverb chasis (with custom output transformer) - 40W
- customized reverb (how exactly?), with added controls
- Normal channel eliminated
Vibroverb cabinet - ordinarily came with one 15" speaker
- instead, 2x12" speakers

I'm not on the Slacktone list, so I haven't seen this, but would like
to. Thanks!
