Just curious,are Surf tunes mainly played in the Standard E tuning,
and does ne one have any examples of Surf not played in standard E?

Yeah,
LS Did "Caveman" in drop D tuning (fave of all the grunge
bands...DADGBE). It is a very cool song on their first album, and
recorded earlier on Eddie Angel's "Guitar Party" album. If you don't
have "Guitar Party"...GET IT (MUSIK).

I would guess most tunes are in standard tuning. Randy Holden said that he
tuned down to D for the Fender IV stuff. Man or Astro-Man? (while not trad
surf) have a number of songs in drop D (DADGBE).

I dropped the low E string to D for Ghost Train on our
Cool Surfin album. Also Der Ölprinz, live i played it
with a dropped D, while in the studio I had a Höfner
sixstring bass.
