Thanks for the responses to my review from the other day. Here's some
follow-up:
These guitars are made in Korea. The width at the nut is 42 mm (1.65"),
compared with the original Mosrite's 33 mm (1.299"). By the way, I notice
that KTM Guitars is still selling the Japanese Mosrites on eBay for $1000
and that includes
shipping plus the case. This GPC Vintage was $399 + $18 shipping. At the
GuitarPunk site, they list the "suggested retail price" at $599, but they
actually sell it for $399, which also includes a case that's kind of cheap,
but adequate.
I will send Flav, the GuitarPunk/GPC owner, some comments. I asked him some
questions about the neck before I bought the guitar and he told me that it
was similar to a Gibson slim-taper neck. It's actually more chunky than that
and falls short in some other comparisons, too, but I really don't think
that Flav was trying to mislead me. I should have told him how
important the thin neck was to me. Oh well. I do want to tell him the
positives as well, such as how nice it sounds and the other things that I
mentioned.
By the way, thanks Neal for the suggestions and info about the Squire Vista
Series Jagmaster and the Super-Sonic. I didn't know anything about them, but
I'll check them out. I'm thinking that perhaps I can be the anti-Cobain and
buy a Jagmaster and then put Jaguar pickups on it!
When I got the GPC, I actually did something with it and figured out
'Morpheus' by the Toads. I wish that I knew how to do tablature. If I did,
I'd try to post it in case anybody is interested. Isn't there a program
available that you can use to create tab? I've sure learned a lot of songs
using tab, but I know nothing about how to actually create it. When I just
use lines and try to do it myself, the strings don't line up right.
Anyway, 'Morpheus' is in F#minor and the bridge goes Bm-A-G-F#minor. I know
that's not really useful, but it's a good song and it's been a long-time
favorite of mine. I have the original on the "Get A Board" compilation. Plus
, there are a few covers of it around, including one by the Surf Kings on
"Rock Don't Run, vol. 1."

P.S. Link Wray is playing in Cleveland this coming Monday (July 15). I've
seen him twice and I'm planning on going this time, even though it's a
Monday night. The Sump Pump Monkeys are opening. They seem to open for
everybody in Cleveland! They opened for Dick Dale last month. Link was
supposed to play on April 4, but I heard that he cancelled his tour because
he had eye surgery in Holland, where he lives. I'm glad that he decided to
come over and do the tour! I think he's 73!

Ha-ha...yeah, pay all those guys back for routing Jaguars. I would have put
single coils in mine, but that would have meant trying to get a custom
pickguard made. It wasn't worth the hassle, so I went for the coil tapping
push/pull pots.

I just use a standard text editor to do tab. The only trick is that you must
use a non-proportional font, like courier, otherwise it doesn't line up as
you have found. In a non-proportional font, all the characters are exactly
the same width.

I would love to see Link. I am glad to hear that he's back after the
surgery.
Have fun at the show,
