When I saw the Bomboras the few fortunate times that I did (circa '98/'99), they
had two dancers for the first couple of shows. When they came back around, they
had no dancers, but did have road manager (Grant). If memory serves, Grant was
the road manager for the Amazing (Royal) Crowns & after the conclusion of the
Cramps/Crowns/Bomboras tour (February/March 98), I believe they hired him on to
do the HSF tour. When I asked them about it, they said they could either pay
the dancers or pay Grant, but not both. In the end, the "roadie" proved more
valuable & I can certainly understand why, at least for a band on a prolonged
tour.
From my own experience, we played a show in Holland last year, finished our
set, then hopped in a van & drove 8 or 9 hours through the night to Switzerland.
Now if you told me I could either have a hot gogo dancer shaking her monkeyhole
at the crowd during our 45 minute set, OR have a guy named Ludo (wearing a
leather vest with tassles, no less) help us load our shit out of the club, and
then proceed to drive our sorry arses down the autobahn in the dead of night,
all night...there is no choice, baby!
