Re: Slacktone pickups

ipongrac - 30 Jan 2005 14:16:58

Wish I could have been there... As far as the pickups with metal
casings, I bet those are the Burns Trisonics Dave's been talking
about lately. Burns UK has recently started making them again after
some forty years. Many of the sixties Burns guitars sported these
pickups (including a Jazz Split Sound that are relatively easy to
find), but their main claim to fame is that they are the only stock
part (meaning, not hand-made) found on Brian May's famous 'Red
Special' (or whatever he calls it) custom guitar that he's played for
decades and that his dad and him built. My understanding is that
they play a major part in his unique tone. I wonder how they sound
for surf?

Hes got metal casings on the pick-ups. I don't know if that
represents different pick-ups altogether but we'll have to ask him
when he wakes up. What a fun night!
