Obispo-Tommy Nunes. He plays in a(vocal) band w/ my cousin down there these
days...
good story-Jim Thomas<MERMAN> and I traveled to SLO in '02 for a show i was
playin and we went to see Tommy and Chet play an afternoon show and i
introduced Jim to Tommy(Mermen play a great version of Latinia). anyway they
got along like old shipmates-Tommy came to a Mermen show later that year in
SLO and was blown away by the band's take on that 'Sentinals' classic.
Tommy has had little or no contact w/ the surf world and had no idea his
song was so popular still-"hey we were kids tryin to write soul songs..."
i told him he should do an interview w/ P Dirt but he still doesnt think
anybody cares about that old stuff-but i keep tellin him-so, maybe there is
hope. also i believe he got burned back then by all that Del-Fi illegal
songwriter ripoff stuff that went down...
