Re: [SurfGuitar101] Re: Surf band and album reccomendations.

Brian Neal (xarxas) - 27 Jan 2005 19:20:48

A few more...it's getting harder not to repeat someone else:
Recent Bands:
The Bomboras - Head Shrinkin' Fun is the pinnacle of their work IMHO
Husky & The Sandmen
The Hellbenders - not really surf, but dig that spaghetti western twang
Los Straitjackets - get their live "Damas y Cabelleros" - a great
introduction
Pollo Del Mar - The Golden State, a great modern sounding surf album
From the 80's and beyond:
The Halibuts
From the 60's:
The (Original) Surfaris - i.e. not the Wipeout guys
The Atlantics - forefathers of The Space Cossacks
I also strongly second the previous recommendations on The Nebulas, The
Space Cossacks, The Penetrators, The Apemen, The Volcanos, Jon & The
Nightriders, Slacktone, The Lively Ones, The Bambi Molesters, and S A T
A N ' S P I L G R I M S.
Oh yeah, The Beat Tornados "Mission To Mir" is a stunning piece of
Scando-Euro-Surf. Wow.
And The Treble Spankers do (did) amazing middle eastern sounding surf.
The Treblemakers are great too.
And yes, as you noted, you pretty much have to do all your shopping
online in this genre! Zptduda and Double Crown are great places to get
started.
