I Left My Twang In San Francisco

Unsteady Freddie (schizofredric) - 24 Jan 2005 13:35:28

Unsteady Freddie has returned to the snow drifts of the East from a joyous trek
to San Francisco
As previously reported here and elsewhere, 2 of the 3 nights I spent on the West
Coast were twang-drenched!
Thursday I shlepped 2 + 1/2 hours (at least) to catch THE MERMEN at Cooper's in
a really cool town called NEVADA CITY, California....when you first pull in at
night, it's light up beautifully with white "x-mas" lights everywhere! Unsteady
Freddie got stopped by a local police officer for flashing his brights a couple
of times, because I couldn't read the damn street names on the signs....maybe
the cop thought I was signalling some terrorists? I am clueless. Luckily for
all involved, after viewing my driver's license, he let me go (what would he
have charged me with anyway?). yes, an UNSTEADY moment for sure.
The MERMEN were in top form. 3 sets! Pink Floyd meets The Twang! An interview
- 2 members of the band - in a continuous discussion ... was accomplished. Most
enlightening. I'll run it as soon as I can.
This is one great band - wish they would get in the studio and give us another
fine CD to add to their catalogue.....
Saturday Jan 22nd was a classic day in my life.
For starters, I went down to KFJC to meet Phil Dirt for the first time. Hugs
all around! What an amazing guy....unassuming, open-hearted, and of course
deeply knowledgeable on the subjec of rock n roll. Took a couple of pictures,
was getting ready to head out, when Mr. Dirt made an offer that was impossible
to refuse....you guessed it....he put me on the air and "interviewed" me for
what seemed like forever but probably was 10-15 minutes. What a special moment
for me. East meets West, West meets East. Hope some of you got to hear it. I
am still buzzing from this, rest assured.
Then off to Stinson Beach to catch THE AQUAMARINES....the long and winding road
(Route 1 and its detour) would be an apt description....20 minutes of driving
like a snake, if a snake could drive....Jesus, and then I had to drive out of
there! THE AQUAMARINES were plaing in a beautiful restaurant - and also ran
into BigWaveDave of Tube Sharks/Twang 10 Cowboys fame. Interview with
BigWaveDave, and one with the entire AQUAMARINES is forthcoming. The band
played low volume but brilliantly. This is an amazing band! And when they
start doing more and more originals...watch out...you have been warned!
Then off to the AQUA VELVETS at the Beach Chalet. MIles - the band's guitarist,
was expecting me...and was so gracious and friendly, I was floored. "Ho-Okipa"
by request from yours truly was played with fervor and sounded just spectacular.
Tears flowing from Unsteady Freddie during that moment you can be sure....Great
interview conducted there too. Also ran into members of the LAVA RATS -- and
scored an another great interview there as well.
Will start posting pix on www.reverbsuperb.com as soon as I can
And I cannot help but mention that I spent four cloudless days sight-seeing in
SanFran -- what a fabulous time I had!
Thanks to everyone I met for the luv, hugs, great music, and surfy good times
I am the luckiest boy in the world!
