I'll have to second Shawn on the Digitech Digiverb. I
owned an ElectroHarmonix Holy Grail for a while and it
did give a surprisingly good spring sound on the
spring setting (but again, this is at bedroom volume
levels), but shortly before I sold it I tried a
Digiverb in the store at pretty decent volume (shaking
the windows a little) and decided in a few minutes
that it had the Holy Grail beat, especially when doing
the damped rhythm playing that Shawn mentioned.
People have always screamed "BOSS" when talk of pedals
comes up but I have liked the Digi's and even own one.

The Digiverb, aside from being an excellent
all-around reverb pedal, does a pretty good job of
mimicking the tank sound when playing damped rhythm.
