If I remember correctly, Phil Dirt said Dale told him he never
actually met Jimi, but knew from someone else that Jimi was inspired
by seeing DD playing a right-handed, normally strung Strat upside
down. I guess seeing someone else do it so well put the "should I be
doing this?" second-guessing to an end.
It's a bit different than the stories Dale tells now, but then again,
half of the stories he tells now stop just shy of "... on the seventh
day, I rested. Then I invented fire."

To me, Dick Dale's version doesn't sound nearly as good as the
original, especially when he starts double picking. I'm probably in
the minority on this, though.
"Hornet's Nest" is amazing, though. The El Caminos do a pretty good
cover on "Reverb Explosion."
