Because it is sometimes mentioned here, in this forum, let it be said that the
Jagstang is
not a surf guitar. It is an imitation of Kurt Cobain's mongrified Mustangs and
Jaguars. As
much as I love Nirvana's music, the use of a hot Dimarzio humbucker in the
bridge
position pretty much took Kurt's guitars out of the instro surf tradition and
put them in
the category he helped create, grunge.
That said, I know a cat who gets good surf tone out of his Gretsch Brian Setzer
hollowbody, which isn't a surf guitar either. But I think it has single-coil
P-90s on it.
