I'm not going to miss the show with Slacktone and the Nebulas on Sat. March
5th. I would have gone to the Thursday night show, but I can't be traveling
so much, especially one day before opening for the Surf Coasters. NorCal is
out of our budget this year, but I'd try to go see as many Surf Coasters
gigs as possible.
Which brings me to my next issue.
The place we're playing in San Diego, The Whistle Stop, is not a place with
a history of Surf Music shows (unlike the other venues in the tour that have
had many surf shows in the past).
The first surf gig there was very successful, and we're hoping the
Infrareds/Slacktone show on Jan 28th will be successful, too.
The gig with the Surf Coasters on Friday March 4th has to be PACKED with
people that came to see them. Why? so we can make the venue owner confident
that there's a good crowd for Surf music in San Diego.
So, for those of you who are not sure about coming to see this gig, please
consider it as a contribution to strengthening the San Diego surf music
scene, which needs all the help it can get, regarding choice of venues open
for surf bands.
Of course, I'm not trying to step on the Detonators/Insects/Kelp toes here,
just bringing the information to everyone's attention. I'd hate the turnout
to the SD show to be low, causing the bar owner to not be open for future
surf gigs in the place.
Happy New Year,
Ran
The Sand Devils
