The Beat Tornados are an incredible surf band. They're definitely
among the best in the world today, yet it seems that nobody knows
about them in the USA. Very sad. They have three CDs out. Their
first one is nothing really special, but their second "Mission To
Mir" is astonishing. I haven't heard their most recent album, but
I've exchanged a few emails with those guys and it looks like they'll
hook me up.
There are some amazing Euro surf bands out there now, and it seems
that most US fans are totally missing out on them. I'll write more
about this soon, but for now I'll just mention a few of them. In my
opinion these bands deserve a lot more attention than they're getting:
The Beat Tornados (Norway) - 3 albums out
Langhorns (Sweden) - 3 albums out
The Lunatics (Finland) - 3 albums out
Husky & the Sandmen (Finland) - 2 albums out
El Ray (Denmark) - 1 album out (I think, I'm not sure about that)
These are just some from Northwest Europe, there are more, but these
bands have really been blowing my mind for the last year or two and
more recently. These bands tend to be influenced by Laika & the
Cosmonauts and/or the Treble Spankers and are really pushing TRAD
surf music forward in a very, very cool way. As far as I'm concerned
the most exciting developments in surf music today are in Northwest
Europe.
