This is what I used with the Space Cossacks:
1st album ('96-'98)
'89 Fender Strat Plus (fiesta red, lace sensor gold pickups)
'95 Fender Jazzmaster Limited Edition (Jap, Seymour Duncans Vintage)
'70s Maestro Echoplex (borrowed)
2 Fender Reverb Units - reissues, modded w/ NOS tubes
'94-'95 Fender Vibrasonic Custom (100W, all-tube, 15" speaker)
'93 or so Vox AC30TB reissue (Celestion Greenbacks)
'95 Fender Blues Deluxe (blonde tolex, 12" speaker, 40W)
I would always record with two amps, always the Vibrasonic and either AC30
or the Blues Deluxe. Then I'd balance them in the mixdown.
Second album '98-'00:
more or less the same as above, with these few changes:
Chandler Stereo Digital Echo (no more Echoplex)
'89 Fender Strat (changed the pickups to Texas Specials)
two Fender '62 Reissue Strats stock (got them used, one is probably late
'80s and the other mid-'90s)
Since then, I've also used a Korg Dynamic Echo pedal (which is great!),
and changed the pickups in one of the '62 reissues to Seymour Duncan APS-2
Alnico II Pros. I've also been using a handmade '96 Bedrock Royale Reverb
amp (30W, Class A, all tube including a tube rectifier,
2-12" speakers) for the Shadows stuff (because I'm afraid my Vox is more
or less a lemon - sounds harsh), as well as a Zoom 508 echo pedal. I
think that about does it. As you can see I'm not a vintage snob, for
purely practical reasons - not enough money. But I try to approximate
vintage gear with new issue, and feel I get close enough).
