I'm not sure on the short scale, but I know they are out there.
Dan Valente in the Insect Surfers plays a Mustang Bass and he has
Shortscale Flatwounds.
I used to have Roundwound stings for 15 years. And Just assumed
that was the string to use for rock/surf. But I got a set of
D'Addario chromes flatwounds from Shawn of the Deoras, and will never
go back to Roundwounds again. It's like playing with buttah on the
strings compared to roundwounds.
As for the tapewounds , those are usually used on Fretless, or
acoustic basses.
