Not too sure about that. The Galaxie is way closer in body shape to a
JM/Jag than either the Charvel or the Ibanez, and a generally better
quality guitar than the Turser. As far as Jags being too expensive,
Japanese Jaguars (and occasionally Jazzmasters) pop up on Ebay all
the time for under $500. I got my first Jaguar for $350, and when I
resold it it still went for just under $450.
That, or you could spend even less on, say, a Jagmaster or a
SuperSonic, and spend maybe another hundred bucks or so and get some
P90's that are made to retrofit a humbucker route, and you're still
under the $500 mark.
Other non Jag-shaped options that I like (ignore the prices on these
sites, as all of these could be had cheaper than the prices tha are
posted):
Epiphone Firebird (one of the most versatile guitars made that
doesn't end in "Caster")

Dillion Mosrite Copy (what screams surf more than a Mosrite? )

Plus I love the Eastwoods you mentioned, or at least I love the way
the look. I've never played one though. Looking at the pictures of
the Hornet, it seems to be pretty different from the original
Danelectro - particularly in body thickness/contour. The Dano
reminded me of some of the new Ibanezes, as in the the body
litterally reminded me of an axe blade - not in shape, but as in the
middle thickness was like an inch at most, then tapers off from there
to a rounded edge. The Eastwood is definitely more squared off -
loses some appeal with me because of that. With the original Dano
Vincent Bell Hornets popping up from Time To time and going for over
$1200 easy, the Eastwood is a nice alternative.
Good luck.
