Re: That Shadowy/Atomic sound...

Jeff (bigtikidude) - 09 Oct 2004 16:32:50

Dan,
Does Brian know about the Tribute cd to SMOASP that came out a few
years back from Deep Eddy Records? I belive it was called
"Better Than an Average Weekend". And has The Deoras,Insect Surfers,
The Fabulous Planktones,The Coacktail Preachers and many more..
What did he think about it?
After I got that I went out and got all their cd's. I have a
few singles of theirs, but some are hard to find, like the old Man Or
Astroman singles(who also had a semi hollwbody guitar as well if I
recall corectly).
Dim the lights and chill the Ham is my fav. of thiers.

vintage or reissue Gretsch, although lately he has been using the
reissue version of the Gibson Scotty Moore played. Brian used to use
a Vox AC30, he now plays through a reissue Standell. His tank is a
reissue Fender.

amp, probably a Mono Block. I recall one night back in 1979 when
Reid's band Crash Kills Five was playing at a punk bar called the
Edge in Toronto, he reached that long Firebird neck off the stage and
flung the ashtray on my table across the room like it was a hockey
puck! The singer in that band, Don Pyle, became the drummer for
Shadowy Men.

many occaisions. Atomic 7 has opened for my rock'billy band The Royal
Crowns a few times as well. My brother did a stint on drums for
Atomic 7 for a year or so. As a matter of fact, Brian's going to be
rehearsing with me on the 16th of this month. I'm playing lead for a
country tribute show the next day and Brian is going to get up and do
an instrumental version( of course! ) of Hello Walls. If there's
anything you want me to ask him let me know. I'm serious. I
understand that he's well known and respected in the U.S. He's very
humble and would be tickled to know we're talking about him. I'm sure
his ears are burning now...in a nice way.
