Headless Hersemen show review

Jeff (bigtikidude) - 03 Oct 2004 13:28:27

First off Let me say this was Not a surf show. Although the members
of the band were(Norm from Ghastly Ones on Vocals),(Chris Barfield,
and Steve Hill from the Huntington Cads/Finks),(Dave Drummer from
the Bomboras),and one other guy on Keyboards not sure who).
The Music was more along the lines of Spooky Frat rock, Chris
was playing a Epiphone semi hollowbody through a Fender Deluxe
Reverb. But not much Reverb or Volume coulld be heard. The major
instrument was the Keyboard(vox sounding on some songs,Harpsicord
on others. They were all Vocals, I'm assuming a mix of covers and
originals. But i'm not up on Garage/Frat rock so I couldn't really
say. Except that they did Screamin' Lord Such's "Jack the Ripper"
and "The Crusher" that the Bomboras used to finish the shows with.
Both Vocals of course.
The stage set up was kinda borrowed from the Ghastly Ones
with the Graveyard fences and chains, and 2 Tombstones on each side
of the stage. They all wore White Tuxedo tail coats with white top
hats and white pants. With about 4 or 5 Black lights Lighting them
all up really bright. Oh and they had Black masks on to hide their
faces.
It was fun, and alot of people were there. Met San, and Kristina
who are both posters on the yahoo groups. Ran and Dale came up from
San Diego, and we carpooled up to LA from OC. While it was a good show,
we were alittle disapointed that there was not even one spooky surf
song. All very R&B flavored and well done. But no rippin' drippin'
spooky surf songs.
But Norm, and Garret said that they'd totally be into getting
back together if the Satan's Pilgrims would be touring, to do a show,
or shows together.
I guess it's a good thing Brian Neal didn't make the trip out to
see the show. I think he would have been very bummed out.
I'd like to hear what some other people thought.
