Re: Reissue tank

Gavin Ehringer (windanseabeachboy) - 27 Sep 2004 18:21:50

I've had two reissues, and came away wondering if they were worth it. Neither
had the
"sproingy" wet sound that I get on my old recordings of original 60s surf music.
I mean, it
was there, but not in bountious quantities. One had real radio frequency issues;
the other
has some obnoxious electrical noise problems when I crank my amp/pedal
board/tank
combo up into the high registers.
That said, it is still a damn site better than a pedal.
My only hesitancy regarding vintage tanks is: you never know how good the
40-year-old
electronic parts in it are, which makes it nerve racking to use or to spend the
big bucks
on. I think if I had the money, I'd look for a modern, hand-wire version of the
original
Fender tank from one of the boutique makers.
But I don't, so my '62 Reverb reissue works just fine.
