My wife just got a set of Rotosound RS 88S Tru Bass strings (65, 75, 90,
115) for her Jerry Jones long horn bass. But get this, they are covered in
black nylon! I don't know much of anything about bass guitar gear, and I had
never heard of this. Anyway, they have a very unique sound (and look!); they
sound like I would imagine a stand-up bass would. Very punchy and thuddy,
not a lot of sustain. On the packaging, it mentions these strings were used
by The Beatles on Abbey Road, and there is also an old picture of John
Entwistle (but it doesn't say if he used this particular kind). Now she can
get some really different sounds with this setup compared to her P-bass with
round wounds. Anyone heard of these before?
What bass strings do you all use?
