sloppy, slightly off-pitch uncontroled half step bending actually is
a major part of the sixties sound, if you dig pebbles and back from
the grave sort of music.
I used to play in a 60's garage band and my soloing became a lot more
authentic when i changed to a heavier (i.e. too heavy) gauge. The
idea occured to me after I saw Lou Reed do some really fast metal
like soloing on an Ibanez speed machine (he was actually pretty
decent at it too) and then switching to a heavy strung guitar for
typical VU sound. (i.e. sloppy etc)
Nowadays 011's are a good compromise for me, but then again, I have
small hands and would probably loose a thumbwrestling match from a he-
man action figure.
