Re: "Not So Nice" Sounds

Dana and Roberta Vincent (dana_l_vincent) - 14 May 2002 19:13:37

Erik, the overdrive should "always" be first, directly from the guitar.
Sounds to me like you are overdriving the reverb with the pedal; try turning
down the gain on the pedal, and/or the mix on the reverb unit to see if that
helps. I don't have any experience with the Voodoo Lab unit, but I remember
I had to wait three months for delivery of my KLON Centaur (each hand made,
no production line; even the "instructions" are hand-written). I did
recently buy one of the BOSS OD-20 Overdrive/Distortion pedals, and it did a
very good job of "modeling" the KLON unit (as well as 21 other popular
effects and pedals). Really a nice pedal (around $180 new), particularly if
you want a lot of variety in tone. Not completely happy with the way the
presets are selected, but that is a minor complaint. Hope that helps a bit.
Best regards, Dana Vincent

Hi Dana,
You do mean put the overdrive 'first' before the reverb, inbetween the
guitar and reverb? That's what I was doing. I did try it after the reverb
and it's better. I would love to have a Klon Centaur, I hear they're great,
but hard to find and pricey. I was thinking about the Voodoo Lab's Sparkle
Drive(?) That might be pretty close to Centaur?
thanks,
Erik
