I guess it's what you're use to or willing to give up. To me, the wound 3rd
feels 'weird' and doesnt have the snappy tone I expect from that string.
Plus, I'm still more of a bender than most surf players, so the unwound 3rd
works better for me.
If I had my way, I'd have all 6 strings unwound.
