Re: [SurfGuitar101] Surfing, Surfer's Hair, Jazzmaster

Assuming the song is from the 60s, I would say it is about a particular
hairstyle. If the song was more current, that could be a different
story. I'm from Huntington. When I was a teenager, "surfer hair" was
messed up hair that was dried with salt water in it. You could rub your
hands through "surfer hair" and sand would come out.
I can't say anything about the guitar. I only played bass in a garage
band in the 80s.

I finally got to give surfing a quick try while in the Huntington
Beach area last month on business. I paddled my 51 year old Oklahoman
butt out into the waves until my arms finally gave out. I did manage
to get up on one knee a few times and the guy who took me out said I
did pretty good for never having done it before. Mostly, I swallowed
saltwater.. My goal was to try and try I did. Next topic, Surfer hair.
I've been listening to a lot of vintage garage sound lately. In The
Sonics song "The Hustler", they say "He's got the surfer hair". OK,
what was the surfer hair? Was it like the young Dick Dale's hairdo,
slicked back or what? Last topic, I got one of the recent Jazzmaster
reissues sold on the web. I love the guitar but hate the bridge. I am
thinking of buying a Mustang bridge from Stew-Mac and swap it out.
The configuration is supposed to be the same. Anyone done that?
Thanks,
Roy
