Give yourself a while to get used to them. My Jag has 12s on it (D'Addrio
Chromes). When I pick up my old guitar that is still strung with 9's I have
a good laugh now. I did have to adjust the truss rod and tweak the action
after going to the 12s. They seem to fit in the nut just fine. I was glad I
didn't have to mess with that.
Personally, I found that I could lower the action with the 12 flats. My
roundwounds seemed loose and floppy and liked to buzz. The heavy flats seem
tighter to me and no longer buzz. I am really glad I experimented with them
as I think they sound great. I kept the wound G though. Once my fingers got
used the heavier strings, I didn't miss the unwound G.
I still have 11 rounds on my Strat and I may try 12 flats on it as well. I
have heard that 12's on a Strat are much stiffer and more difficult to play
than 12's on a Jag because the Jag has a shorter scale. I guess I'll see for
myself.
