SURF'S UP UP UP UP......
Unsteady Freddie here, sending out a big spiritual hug and sloppy wet twangy
kiss on the collective foreheads of everyone who helped me launch my first
"SURF-ROCK SHINDIG" last night at New York City's CORAL ROOM.
Special beach pails of gratitude go out to THE SUPERTONES for stepping up and
giving their all to an enthusiastic crowd -- PRESLEY pounding the skins, TIM
paying the keboards and guitar, often simultaneously, MIKE on guitar, and SIMON
on bass (including stand-up) -- keeping the backbeat grooving
When I say "stepping up" - let me clarify. I got a call from SANDY ("Oceana")
of THE 9TH WAVE yesterday morning, informing me that guitarist (and founder of
"NESMA") MIKE ROSADO had a horrible mishap the night before working in his
garage, and that they couldn't appear for the show. SO THE SUPERTONES PLAYED
FOR THE ENTIRE 7-11 PM "SURF-ROCK SHINDIG" -- BLESS THEM !!
SANDY was at the hospital with MIKE. I told her I was more upset that I wasn't
at the hospital holding MIKE's hand and being present for them. By the way I
spoke to MIKE this afternoon, he is home, recuperating. It seems that MIKE was
working on cutting some metal -- to make a long story short, the friction
between the 2 metals got so hot, that apparently a fireball shot out, and caught
an unsuspecting MIKE head-on, causing first and second degree burns about the
face and torso, burning through his clothes, etc. The pain was intense. And
this coming off a recent problem with one of his legs (a twisted ankle I think?)
which caused him to hobble about somewhat. But it didn't keep MIKE from playing
with DICK DALE in New Haven and at OTTO'S SHRUNKEN HEAD in NYC earlier this
month. Proof you can't keep a "GOOD TWANGER" down !! I asked for prayers a few
times at THE CORAL ROOM for MIKE-- I trust they got thru? I believe MIKE will
issue some kind of statement recapping what he's
been through. But let's heave a collective sigh that he's gonna be OK and
before you know, will be rockin' out again !! I think he might have lost one of
his 180 + "Hawaiian shirts" -- but hey, it could have been worse!!

Special waves of joyful thanks to THE CORAL ROOM for getting behind the UNSTEADY
FREDDIE "SURF-ROCK SHINDIG" -- so much so that they listed the event in printed
ads using that monicker. And.....here's some more amazing news.......
THE CORAL ROOM has confirmed another UNSTEADY FREDDIE "SURF-ROCK SHINDIG" for
July 14th !!
Here's the line-up:
MR. ACTION & THE BOSS GUITARS -- leading instrumental party band from NYC --
they go on 7-9 PM
THE CLAMS -- steamin' surf trio from Connecticut who previously played an
UNSTEADY FREDDIE event at TAVARU in May/2004 -- hit the stage 9-11 pm
So, for me, a dream becomes a reality !!
Hey West Coast -- watch out for UNSTEADY FREDDIE and his "SURF-ROCK SHINDIG" --
the East Coast is fast becoming the place to catch live surf-rock music on a
regular ongoing basis
