...I think it is just a way of expressing frustration and disgust with the
folks that think Fender instruments are the only guitars that should be
playing instrumental surf music. Personally I find it quite humorous, but
then I do have a somewhat warped sense of humor...!!! Yeah, I have seen a
couple of comments regarding Fender-supremacy in previous posts, but I took
it as more of what worked best for those particular individuals. I have
always found that the Fenders were easier to get the "surf" sound
right-out-of-the-box, but certainly any guitar with the correct combination
of effects and amplification is capable of a respectable tone. I can even
remember starting out playing in my first surf band (1963-era) with a
Jaguar-like Silvertone played through a bandmates no-name amp! Although I
thought it sounded pretty good then, if I heard it now, I would probably be
grossed-out! Still, put it through an outboard reverb and a Showman, who
knows?
