My idea in forming this band was to present instrumental music to a
somewhat older crowd that attends cars shows and listens to "oldies
music." Being a big Ventures fan, I just looked to them for source
material. It was only when our second guitarist joined that I became
aware of "surf music" as a specific genre and heard some of the
contemporary groups out there. Until we get to play for an audience,
we won't know how a crowd will react to a Ventures cover group. We
are not looking to get into the club circuit, for a numbere of
reasons, so I don't feel compelled to keep up with the latest
trends. BTW, we have two guitars, bass and drums and a pretty full
sound as a result. I noticed that many of the surf bands are 3 piece
like yours. I guess that's to have a 3 way split of any money you
make rather than a 4 way, right? Best of luck out there in Chicago.
