Bill, a year and a half ago I had an excellent tech replace the 2-
point American Standard tremolo on my '89 US Fender Strat Plus with a
Fender vintage-reissue 6-point tremolo, and my tone improved rather
dramatically. It's a much better sounding guitar now. Though I
don't know what it would to do to a Squier...

nice discussion of 2-point vs. 6-point tremolos.
