Re: Hendrix Fuzz

mono_tones_1 - 27 Feb 2004 06:22:14

Hi Jason,
for what it's worth, I've been looking for a fuzz for a while and did
quite some searching on the net.
My advice is: check out the fulltone.com page, it has soundsamples of
all their pedals, which give a really good indiocation of different
fuzz sounds.
fuzzwise, they have "fulltone '69" pedal, and Soul Bender, sounds
like a hotrodded '69 to my ears. These both have pretty much that old
Hendrix sound.
then there is the Fulltone '70 fuzzpedal, for the later Hendrixfuzz
sound. if this is the sound you're after, there's plenty of others
that do the same thing just a good for way less bucks.
Here is where I am at now: Not one pedal of which i have found a
soundsample, boutique or otherwise - has that old Hendrix sound, no
matter what they claim. and I listened too a lot. So I decided to go
for the (quite expensive) fulltone pedal. Esp. the 69 is well
available on Ebay, btw.
From what I read on the net, the new fuzzfaces are not that good and
definitly do not give 'old' Hendrix sound. Hendrix had his fuzzfaces
modded, so even then his sound wasn't 'the' fuzztone sound
appearantly.
... but this is all www-info, so i dont know how reliable it is. do
your own searching', and your own deciding.
have a good fuzz-hunting!
