Alright, let's have a go at this....
How long have you been playing?
Going on 14 years now. I started really young (3rd grade... you can
do the math), but didn't really start playing much of anything
seriously until high school. Fortunately by then I knew HOW to play,
so I picked things up really fast. After countless punk and indie
rock bands, I got heavy into swing music in high school and started a
swing band in SF. After that was over, I decided I wanted to do
something where the guitar played more than just chords (and I can't
sing to save my life, so...).
What instrument(s) do you play?
Guitar is my main fix, but I also dabble in bass. I played tuba back
in the day, but could never afford one of my own. The day I do, you
can bet you'll hear the first surf tuba solo!
What got you into surf?
Apparently I've always loved surf. What really blew me away was when
I saw the Blue Hawaiians open for Big Bad Voodoo Daddy here in SF at
The Fillmore. After that I was TOTALLY hooked. But looking back, I
was buying Dick Dale tapes and "Rare Surf" bootlegs at flea markets
as far back as the early 90s.
